And so the next journey begins… writing for a book
You know those signs you get in life that come in the form of, the feather, the brick or the truck? Many, many moons ago, while telling a story to friends of a series of, out there experiences, a friend said, “oh my god, that’s crazy! You’ve got to write a book” Huh… the feather. Nah, I thought to myself, who would want to read about anything I’ve done? Anyway, everybody has a crazy story they could write about, I’m certainly no different.
Immediately, I shut myself down, telling myself, that’s like saying, ‘look at me, look at me’ and I am certainly NOT the person who likes the spotlight. No way!
About a year ago a message pinged on my phone inviting me to write a chapter in a book. Once again, my self doubt came up. Nah, not the right time, I wouldn’t even know what to write about. I politely declined the offer, knocking back the brick.
Fast forward to today, I have now experienced the truck…
A chance lunch with a friend I have only met a couple of times, however, a woman I knew I would get to know on a deeper level, had us talking about a book called ‘RebelMa’ and that she was writing a chapter in it. “Oh, that’s great Kerry, good on you!” She mentioned at the time what a great experience she is having in the process, and I should join her. Here we go again! “Nah, we’ve just moved here and my focus in on the family at the moment and settling in, you know, finding my feet again.”
I’m not sure what you call it, what it is that comes after the truck, but I’m going to name it, a big, strong kick up the ass displaying itself in the form of a lightening bolt and oh boy, when you say, ‘Nah’ this time, and you’re meant to say ‘Absolutely Yes! I’d love to, when do we start?’ the powers to be will rearrange your inner compass, let all your emotions burst inside of you and then, move planets to make it happen.
And this is exactly what happened.
That morning I felt the need to recharge and get in the salt water. I sent a message back to Saoirse and asked if the chapter was still available. I was already at the beach with my kayak keen to paddle. Leaving the phone in the car, I knew, upon my return, if the answer was yes, it was meant to be and if it were to be no, I had missed that boat and should take this lesson as it rolls.
The people, the resources and every last ounce of the soul led work I have committed myself to, intensely, shone through. It took just one person to believe in me and from there, we snowballed. The answer was “Yes!”
